Scene Study and On-Camera Workshop
By audition or invitation only.
Designed for the professional, working actor, this is an ongoing class with four sessions a month.
The focus is on a deeper understanding of text, and how to create a character from the building blocks of self. We examine various points of view through questions and dialogue, which leads to increased flexibility in approach, and greater depth in performance.
Material will be recommended to students based upon my assessment of their need to grow and explore in order to increase skill and range. Students are also free to select their own material, and students who are writer/performers are encouraged to bring in work that they are developing on their own, to work on solo or with the group.
My technique draws heavily on my study with Uta Hagen, and the techniques and exercises described in her book, A Challenge for the Actor. Like Uta, I believes that the development of the characters we play is achieved through the exploration of aspects of our own character. I also incorporate the lessons learned in my fifty-plus years experience in film, television and on stage, with an emphasis on script analysis, the identification of the desires and goals of the character, and the shifting tactics and actions needed to fulfill and secure them.
Class is limited to 16 actors and is by referral, audition or invitation only.
North Hollywood location: Monday afternoons at 1:00.
Sherman Oaks location: Tuesday evenings at 7:00.
In months with 5 Tuesdays, we will take the last Tuesday off.
Monthly tuition is $200.
